Real Madrid Takes UEFA to the Court of Arbitration for Sport

Tensions have existed between Florentino Pérez and Aleksander Čeferin, mainly due to the Real Madrid president’s desire to create a tournament separate from UEFA. This conflict has now moved to the legal stage.

Details: The Court of Arbitration for Sport announced that on September 16, it will examine Real Madrid’s lawsuit against UEFA. The specific issues involved have not been made public, but recently, the UEFA Appeals Committee upheld the Ethics Commission’s decisions from April 4 (after the match with Atlético) and April 28 (following the game against Arsenal), denying Real Madrid’s appeals.

At that time, Real Madrid was fined €15,000 for a “Nazi salute” by its supporters in London. After the Atlético match, Antonio Rüdiger and Kylian Mbappé received one-match suspensions, deferred for one year, along with fines of €40,000 and €30,000 respectively. Dani Ceballos was fined €20,000.

Reminder: Besides the fines, Real Madrid also faced a conditional closure of the away section for one match due to their fans’ behavior during the Arsenal game, with a one-year probation period attached.
